When we bought the drawing and fingerprint books from Barnes and Noble, I also got this book just for Avery. This book teaches how to draw simple bugs, flowers, trees, and other whimsical creatures. It has step-by-step instructions for very drawing. The coolest thing about this drawing book is that it has drawing pages in the back for the artist to complete. They start it, drawing the difficult shapes, and the artist gets to finish drawing and color it. It also had a whole slew of stickers, which are always a hit with the little people in my house.
Avery decided to start with the ladybug.
This is an example of what one of the prestarted (is prestarted a word? well, I am going to use it.) sheets looks like. Avery would not have been able to draw the shape of the body, so it is great for her to be able to finish the fun and easier parts without getting frustrated.
She looked along with the instructions. She started out with the antennae and legs.
Next came the face and dots. Looking pretty darn good so far.
Finally she colored it in. A little backwards from the instructions, but a purple ladybug is way cooler than a red one.
After she was done with the ladybug, she tackled the bumble bee. How bee-utiful. Sorry. I had to.
She finished with the unicorn. This one was further into the book and little more difficult be she rocked it out. She worked really hard. Purple marker even got on her face. Artists don't care about getting messy though. It's part of the job.
Since the book had one prestarted template for each item to be drawn, I figure I will make more for her to use. It was a lot more fun for her to finish than have to draw the bodies of these creatures. Her little four-year-old skillz just aren't there yet. There are quite a few books in this series that are geared towards boys or different interests. They are part of the "Watch Me Draw Series" located on bn.com if you are interested in buying one or two. At only $4.70, we might need to get another one.
